Refund and Cancellation Policy
Version 1.0 · Effective date 2026-07-30
1. Scope
This policy applies to:
(a) the Plus subscription; (b) one-time AI usage packs purchased for your abo Workspace account; and (c) AI usage entitlements granted to your account by us by other applicable means.
It explains when a refund is and is not available, how subscription cancellation works, and how to raise a request. It is published alongside our Terms of Service, which describes the nature and lifecycle of these entitlements.
Entitlements under (c) do not arise from a purchase transaction. Their validity is as shown or notified to you when they are granted, and the effect of that on refunds is set out in Section 9.4.
2. Operator and payments
The Service is operated by Abo Labs.
Paddle acts as Merchant of Record for purchases. Paddle is the seller of record for the transaction and processes the payment under its own terms. Refunds at the payment level are executed by Paddle (Section 9.2).
3. What you can buy
Two things are available for purchase:
- the Plus subscription, billed per subscription period and renewing automatically until cancelled; and
- one-time AI usage packs, which may be bought without a subscription.
Current prices and the denominations available for purchase are shown in the purchase flow and on the confirmation screen before you buy. They are not listed in this policy, so that a change in price does not require a change to this document.
4. Nature of AI usage
AI usage is a limited-purpose entitlement to software services. It is not money and it is not a general-purpose stored-value instrument. It may be used only by the account that acquired it, and only for the AI features designated within abo Workspace. It may not be withdrawn as cash, transferred, sold, given away, or exchanged for cash or anything else of value, and it does not bear interest.
5. Time-limited entitlement; non-refundable in principle
5.1 Validity. A one-time AI usage pack is valid for one year from the date the purchase completes. At the end of that year, any entitlement in that batch that has not been used automatically expires. Validity is not extended, and separate batches are not combined to extend the validity of either. For entitlements under Section 1(c), validity is as shown or notified to you when they are granted.
5.2 Effect of expiry. Expiry at the end of the applicable validity period is part of the disclosed lifecycle of the entitlement. After expiry, the entitlement concerned can no longer be used for AI processing. Expiry does not itself give rise to any contractual right to a refund, an extension, a replacement or compensation. This does not affect any right you have under applicable law, or any circumstance set out in Section 6.
5.3 Non-refundable in principle. AI usage packs are not refundable in principle. They also cannot be withdrawn as cash, transferred or exchanged for money.
5.4 Unused entitlement. An unused state does not by itself create a right to a refund. We do not operate a standing refund window based on unconsumed entitlement.
6. Non-refund principle and exceptions
The principle in Section 5.3 does not affect the following situations:
- applicable law requires a refund or a right of withdrawal;
- a duplicate charge has been taken;
- the transaction was unauthorised, or was fraudulent;
- a purchased entitlement was not correctly delivered;
- a system fault meant that the service was not provided;
- Paddle processes a refund under its Buyer Policy, its payment rules, or a legal obligation to which it is subject; and
- Abo Labs determines, following a case-by-case review, that another exceptional circumstance genuinely requires a refund.
Situation 7 is an additional discretionary remedy. It does not restrict any right you already have, and it does not by itself create a standalone contractual right to a refund.
7. Purchase records and validity
Each purchase is recorded as a separate batch with its own purchase date and its own expiry date. Each grant under Section 1(c) likewise forms its own batch.
Batches are not merged, and the expiry date of one batch is never extended by another. Each batch carries its own acquisition date, expiry date and status.
8. Subscription cancellation
8.1 How to cancel. You may cancel automatic renewal of the Plus subscription at any time.
8.2 When cancellation takes effect. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current subscription period. Your subscription remains active until then.
8.3 The current period. Entitlements granted for the current period remain available until that period ends. The fee for the current period is not refunded on a pro-rata basis.
8.4 AI usage included with the subscription. AI usage included with a subscription is granted per subscription period, and any unused portion expires at the end of the current period. It does not carry over to the next period, whether or not you cancel.
8.5 Statutory rights unaffected. Any refund otherwise required by applicable law, or arising under Section 6, is handled as set out in this policy. Your mandatory consumer rights are unaffected (Section 11).
9. Handling of exceptional cases
9.1 Assessment. Where one of the situations in Section 6 applies, the amount refundable is determined by the nature of the event, the applicable law, the original transaction and the rules Paddle applies to it.
The unused portion of the batch concerned may be taken into account where that is relevant — for example where an entitlement was delivered and partly used. It is not the measure that applies to every case. A duplicate charge, an unauthorised or fraudulent transaction, an entitlement that was not delivered, and a refund required by law are assessed on their own terms and are not reduced to a proportion of unused entitlement.
Where a refund is completed, the corresponding entitlement is withdrawn from the account to the extent of the refund.
9.2 Two levels. Abo Labs assesses the product-level position where that is relevant — what was bought, what was delivered, and what remains unused in the batch concerned.
Paddle, as Merchant of Record, assesses and processes refunds at the payment level under its own policies, its payment rules and the legal obligations to which it is subject. Paddle's decision at that level is its own; we do not determine eligibility or amount on its behalf, and not every case begins with an assessment by us.
9.3 System faults. Where a system fault has incorrectly deducted entitlement, our first remedy is to restore the entitlement that was deducted. Restored entitlement keeps the expiry date of the original batch — restoring it does not start a new validity period. A new validity period runs only where an entitlement is genuinely granted afresh.
9.4 Entitlements granted other than by purchase. Entitlements under Section 1(c) do not arise from a payment transaction, so there is no original payment method to refund to. In consequence:
(a) the situations in Section 6 that depend on a payment transaction — a statutory transaction refund, a duplicate charge, or an unauthorised payment — will not usually apply; (b) where a system fault has affected such an entitlement, the remedy is restoration under Section 9.3, not a cash payment; and (c) an unused state does not create a right to a refund, a payment or any other compensation.
10. Windows and how to request
10.1 No fixed window set by us. We do not set a fixed number of days for refund requests. Any statutory period of withdrawal or refund applies according to the law that governs it, and Paddle's own policy then in force applies to the payment.
10.2 How to request. Contact us at contact@abolabs.io, or through the contact route published on our website. Tell us the account concerned, the transaction or batch, and what has happened. Please contact us promptly, since delay can affect what can be established about a transaction and what Paddle is able to do.
10.3 Our response. We will tell you the outcome and, where a refund is due, what will be refunded and what happens to the entitlement.
11. Mandatory consumer rights
If you buy as a consumer, you have rights under mandatory consumer protection law that cannot be excluded or limited by agreement. Nothing in this policy limits those rights, and where any provision of this policy conflicts with them, those rights prevail.
This includes any statutory right of withdrawal or cancellation and any statutory refund right, which apply regardless of Sections 5 and 6.
12. Changes and contact
We may change this policy. The version and effective date of the current policy appear at the top of this document, and a change takes effect on the date stated in the updated text.
Where a change is material, we will give notice by a reasonable means before it takes effect. Where applicable law, or the nature of a particular change, requires additional notice or requires your consent, we will follow that requirement. A change does not affect a refund request already submitted, or a purchase already completed, except where the change is more favourable to you.
For questions about this policy, contact us at contact@abolabs.io, or through the contact route published on our website.
